My first order of business with this and every product review is a disclaimer: I am not a professional contractor. I am a farmer and a fine furniture maker. When it comes to construction and renovation projects, I’m a DIYer and weekend warrior. That said, I doubt many professional contractors will be reading my tool reviews. My goal in reviewing tools and products is to provide honest feedback based on my own use and experience with these tools to other regular folks like me- wanting to get their hands dirty, try new things, and get the best value for their hard earned dollars.

I used the Dremel Lite 7760 to chamfer the edges on my latest dovetailed whiskey cabinet. On this punky pin oak, chamfering with a blade simply wasn’t an option.

Dremel has a new light duty cordless solution for craft lovers! The Lite 7760 Variable Speed 4-Volt Lithium Ion Cordless Rotary Tool comes with 10 Accessories and delivers the same diversity of cutting and shaping options you’d expect from any rotary tool, this time with Dremel’s first integrated battery, which is charged through a USB port on the tool itself. Four speeds offer better control for different applications, and the ergonomic design and soft grip make it easy and comfortable to use. A battery life indicator illuminates to let you know when the battery needs to be charged, and, when near an outlet, the tool can also be used while being charged, which I found to be a really convenient bonus. When combined with Dremel’s 130 Piece Rotary Tool Accessory Kit ($34.97), you expand the tool’s capability to polishing, sharpening, sanding and carving. This kit includes Dremel’s new EZ lock cutting wheel which allows for quick accessory changes with no wrench.

Because I require a bit more power from my rotary tools, I personally prefer the Dremel 4300 Series Cordless Rotary Tool (Read the review here). That said, at the Under $50 pricepoint, the Lite 7760 is a good option for those doing light sanding, polishing or leather carving.

Dremel also has a new cordless screwdriver on the market, the GO 4-Volt Max Lithium-Ion Cordless Screwdriver with USB Charger and Insert Bits ($39.97). Powerful enough to drive 2” Screws, this compact screwdriver is great for getting into tight spaces your regular drill or driver won’t reach. In function and design, it begs to be added to home renovation electrical kits. Because it’s shaped just like a traditional hand driven screwdriver, it’s great for sneaking into those little spots inside outlets. There’s also no extra button, pressure on the driver tip starts and release of pressure stops the rotation of the tool. It also offers variable speeds for additional control.
